Battler Jon turns 22 today

CelebrationPosted by Leif Larsson Thu, January 01, 2015 12:31:58

He´s been out due to injury since the summer. Hopefully 2015 will turn out to be a better year for Jon Flanagan. It should be, the year is off with a bang, he is turning 22 today. Congrats Scouse Cafu!

He got the nickname when manager Brendan Rodgers compared him to the long-serving Milan defender and Brazilian full-back Cafu. And then the real Cafu mentioned Flanagan in a tweet saying he´s been checking him out playing for Liverpool.

Jon Flanagan´s career is still on the runway waiting to takeoff. He has been trying hard to get into the Liverpool starting line-up and finally managed it last season. Then bad luck struck. Last summer he suffered a knee injury which demanded surgery. The prediction was several months on the sidelines. Months have passed since and it shouldn´t be too long before the young full-back is back in the red shirt.

Especially as he is a battler, we´ve seen that on and off the pitch. He won´t give up until he is back playing at Anfield. Local lad Flanagan is not the most gifted footballer but a grafter, a player that never shirks responsibility. He could in the future easily be a crowd favourite to the same degree as former full-back Joey Jones was. The Kop always loves a fighter. Get better soon Jon, we need guys with big hearts and a winning mentality.
