Scoring and winning - keep it up

ReviewPosted by Leif Larsson Thu, February 05, 2015 19:32:42

A few months ago Liverpool would have lost a game like the one yesterday. But the Reds have now aquired a winning mentality and a self-belief that takes care of difficult situations. The two late goals against Bolton in the fourth round replay in the FA Cup was a testament to that.

Liverpool played pretty well at Macron Stadium last night. Our attacking play was quick, inventive and full of running. From time to time Liverpool excelled in excellent one touch passing. Defensively we were a bit lazy, letting Bolton winning aerial duels and have a few headers on goal. Lately we have been defending set-pieces quite well but yesterday it took a step backwards. Hopefully it was just a temporary slip.

There is not so much more to say about the FA Cup encounter against the Championship side. Liverpool entertained, scored twice, progressed and made Red supporters happy. You can´t ask for more at the moment.

It was however great to see how Emre Can is improving by the game, he will be an important player, and leader, for Liverpool in the coming years. It´s also nice to see that Raheem Sterling is nearing his highest level and above all mindboggling and mouthwatering to have the chance to enjoy the football magic produced by Philippe Coutinho. He must be worth 50 million pounds today. Not that we are going to sell. He is the guy to build a successful team around.

Here are my ratings for the Reds who participated in the replay in the 4th round of the FA Cup (on a scale from 1 to 10):

GK Simon Mignolet 6.

Had some high crosses to deal with and did it well. Made a couple of good saves aswell.

RB/CB Emre Can 7.

Tough defensively and dangerous going forward. A beautiful assist to the equalizer. Out of position sometimes.

CB/RBMartin Skrtel 4.

Made som clumsy tackles and one led to an unnecessary penalty. Not at his best.

LB Mamadou Sakho 6.

A nowadays normal and good display. No fuss defensively and no mishit passes.

DM Joe Allen 2.

No impact on the match. Best effort was when he got tackled twice to get Danns sent-off.

RM LM Lazar Markovic 4.

Worked hard in defence but didn´t contribute so much in attack.

CM Steven Gerrard 4.

Missed passes and shots and on the whole an average performance.

LM Alberto Moreno 4.

Is running and working a lot but has a hard time create danger with his passes.

RF Adam Lallana 3.

Showed some trickery but was too ineffective.

CF Raheem Sterling 6.

Is still dribbling too much but his good deeds are many and fruitful.

LF Philippe Coutinho 7.

Creates so much with his sublime technique and body swerves. Brilliant goal.

CM Jordan Henderson 4. (Replaced Adam Lallana after 54 mins).

Took care of central midfield far better than Allen.

CF Daniel Sturridge 3. (Replaced Joe Allen after 70 mins).

Never got going and seemed a bit rusty.

RF Fabio Borini 3. (Replaced Lazar Markovic after 65 mins).

Too aggressive at times, no offensive impact.

The 2-1 win against Bolton was another step in the right direction. Liverpool is hard to beat right now and fans can hope for a jolly ending to the season. Next up is the Merseyside derby, a clash in the FA Cup fifth round and two matches in the Europa League. Finally the season seems to be one to enjoy. But no slip-ups this time must be the message as:

We Go Again.
