He had a rocky start in Liverpool after signing in the summer of 2013. But nowadays Mamadou Sakho is a regular feature in the side. Today he turns 25. Congratulations are in order.
When the French central defender arrived from Paris SG he was described by Liverpool as a marquee signing. Well, Sakho hardly lived up to the billing in his first season when he played in just 18 league games. This season he also was outside the starting eleven at the start of the season but for quite a while now he has been playing regularly. And by each passing game Sakho grows in stature and is now an important figure in the new-composed back three.
Sakho is strong in duels, uncompromising in tackles, good in the air and fearless. At least when defending. In possession he still seems a bit shaky and his body movements are a bit awkward. But his passing ratio is good and the cooperation with fellow defenders Martin Skrtel and Emre Can is improving all the time.
Mamadou Sakho is now entering the first stages of a centreback´s prime years. Hopefully Liverpool can keep hold of the French international and make him a cornerstone in the side when:
We Go Again.
